Dry Stone Assistant

Whilst this is our entry level qualification it should not be underestimated. You will need to have a thorough understanding of the building process and be able to carry out a range of tasks to a high standard. The criteria for attaining the Dry Stone Assistant qualification is listed below.

You are buying an assessment. If the assessment is successful you will be issued with the qualification. If the assessment is unsuccessful you will be notified to explain why. The assessment takes place remotely and you will be required to produce verifiable evidence of achieving each criteria. We prefer full 'case studies' of work you have completed yourself along with written explanations of procedure and supported by images taken during the process.

Once you have submitted your work for consideration we will be in contact to discuss with you what else we may need, or to request further information about what you have submitted.

If we find something that you are falling short on, we will clearly identify this and you will be given full opportunity to carry out the additional work or provide the additional information.

On completion of this process to our satisfaction we will issue you with the OXFORD Dry Stone Academy ' Dry Stone Assistant' certificate.

Please note that purchase of the assessment does not guarantee a successful application . If we feel that you have not achieved the criteria as laid out to the required standard we will notify you of our decision and the specific reasons for rejecting your application.

• Communicating confidently and professionally.
• Dress a variety of stone types and sizes to a good standard.
• Prepare a site for building including foundation preparation (new build or repair).
• Set up A-frame system.
• Build sections of dry stone wall with correct levels of pinning, packing, taking into consideration other structural factors such as running joints and batter.
• Mix correct mortar and create dome top to wall.
• Mix correct mortar and create upright stone top finish to wall.
• Maintain a clean and tidy working area including management of different waste/spoil types.
• Working to, and achieving pre-arranged deadlines for tasks.
• Work safely and maintain a safe working environment at all times.
